About GRCA

The Garden Route Centre for the Arts (GRCA) is a growing creative hub dedicated to empowering individuals and enriching the community through the transformative power of art.

Our vision is to establish a vibrant arts centre in Plettenberg Bay, complete with a theatre, dance studio, art studios for local creators, and a museum showcasing the work of local Garden Route artists. Through this space, we aim to elevate local talent, inspire meaningful conversations, and foster a sense of pride and connection within our community.

At GRCA, we believe art has the power to heal, inspire, and create change. Join us as we build a space where creativity thrives, voices are heard, and the arts become a cornerstone of the Garden Route’s identity.

Jani Taljaard – Founder of GRCA

Art has always been a guiding force in my life. From my early years as a dancer to my time as a student artist in high school, I’ve found that art offers a unique way to understand the world and express the complexities of human experience. After studying Design & Management at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and working in Design and Marketing since 2010, I returned to the Garden Route with a clear vision: to create a space where art could inspire, heal, and empower.

The Garden Route Centre for the Arts (GRCA) began in 2024 as a small initiative offering art lessons for children in grades 1–5. These classes focus on both the fundamentals of art and the importance of self-expression, encouraging young artists to create work that is not only technically sound but also meaningful. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch these young minds explore their creativity and find their voices through art.

My vision for GRCA, however, extends far beyond art classes. I hope to establish a dedicated arts centre that includes a theatre, dance studio, art studios for local creators, and a museum showcasing the work of local Garden Route artists. This space would serve as a platform for local talent, a hub for community engagement, and a destination for those who appreciate the power of art to reflect our shared experiences and challenges.

Art has always been a source of strength for me, helping me navigate difficult times and find clarity in moments of uncertainty. I want to offer that same opportunity to others, particularly the youth, who are growing up in a world that can often feel overwhelming. By providing a space for creativity and self-expression, I hope to empower them to find their voices and make sense of their place in the world.

As someone deeply connected to the Garden Route, I’m committed to contributing to the growth and enrichment of this community. Through GRCA, I aim to support local artists, foster cultural exchange, and create a legacy that celebrates the unique identity of our region.

Art, for me, is more than a passion—it’s a way to connect, reflect, and inspire. I invite you to join me in building a space where creativity and community can thrive.
